How do I know what I should get as salary if
my company wishes to pay the minimum?
As an
Industrial PhD student you are entitled to be payed minimally as well
as well as a normal PhD student. To find out how much this is at a
given time you can either access the wage agreements at your labor
union’s homepage (e.g. www.dm.dk) or you could contact your university’s HR
department and have them calculate your salary as it would be if you
were employed by the university. It is important, especially if you
calculate the salary yourself from wage agreements that you remember
to include pension and bonuses as well as getting the correct salary
grade (from seniority). You should note that your “seniority within
public employment” for salary grades is calculated from the date you
obtain your Masters degree rather counting how many years you have
actually been employed in a public institution – thus private
employment also counts. You and the company should however be aware
that the rate increases for each year due to seniority. Further the
rate is typically regulated twice a year due to indexing. In many
cases it may be easier to agree on a flat-rate salary for each year
at least that is above the minimum salary and thus takes into account
the biannual indexing.
